After hearing Xie Limo’s words, Yun Bixue’s heart skipped a beat, her mouth gaping open. She was absolutely floored by what she just heard. Looking at the crowd dissipating, she pulled Xie Limo and tried to run below the bridge with a complicated feeling in her heart.
Xie Limo held Yun Bixue’s hand and pulled her back. He said resignedly, “Don’t be so anxious all the time. Look at yourself. You’re always making me worried.” While saying this, Xie Limo picked up the high heels that he had placed by the bridge. He squatted down and put them on for Yun Bixue.
Yun Bixue was taken aback. She finally lowered her head and realized that she had forgotten to wear her shoes. Looking at her feet now, they were both coated with a layer of dirt. Her soles were blackened, and she wriggled and tucked her toes in embarrassment.
“Erm… I can just wear them myself.” The passersby were currently watching them, so she felt even more embarrassed. Moreover, how could she allow Xie Limo to help her put on her shoes when her feet were so dirty?
Xie Limo held her ankles and ordered, “Stop moving.” His voice was full of indulgence, but his tone didn’t permit any defiance.
Yun Bixue could sense the impatience in Xie Limo’s tone, so she stopped moving around. She looked at Xie Limo, who was soaked to his core yet putting on her shoes for her, and felt a tingly sensation within her. In a moment, tears started welling up in her eyes.
She didn’t know why, but she felt an urge to cry. Seeing how Xie Limo wasn’t bothered by her dirty feet and insisted on putting on her shoes for her, tears suddenly flowed down her cheeks. She gently kicked Xie Limo’s hands away and darted off in the other direction. Tears began to trickle down her face uncontrollably.
Caught off guard, Xie Limo was flung away by Yun Bixue. With her heels in his hands, he looked at her departing figure with a shocked expression. His heart ached at the sight of her running away with her bare feet touching the gravel.
His heart ached so much that he began to tremble. Yun Bixue continued to run away from him and stumbled clumsily. All of a sudden, rage began to surge through him, and he ran forward to catch her. He grabbed her arm and tried to force her to turn around. However, Yun Bixue covered her eyes with her hand and refused to turn around.
Xie Limo lowered his voice and asked, “Yun Bixue, you’ve become more and more stubborn, haven’t you?” His voice was unlike his usual cheerful tone. Instead, it was laced with a dark and sharp tone.
Yun Bixue was already feeling uncomfortable deep down. Hearing Xie Limo’s words, she began sobbing more miserably. She tried to suppress her sniffs, but her shoulders trembled uncontrollably.
Xie Limo grabbed Yun Bixue’s arm and felt that something was amiss. He forced Yun Bixue to turn around and pulled her into his arms.
He was initially furious, but the moment he noticed Yun Bixue covering her eyes while crying, it felt as though his heart was sobbing instead. Those tears instantly quelled the fury that burned within his heart.
Xie Limo’s voice turned gentle as he asked worriedly, “What’s wrong? Why are you crying for no reason?” He racked his brains but still couldn’t comprehend what had just happened. She had been fine earlier on, so why was she crying so suddenly?
He lowered his head and tried to remove Yun Bixue’s hand from her eyes, but she refused to let him see them. She answered angrily, “You lost your temper at me earlier.”
Xie Limo’s head throbbed as he explained, “Yun Bixue, the ground is covered with so many little pebbles. What if you hurt yourself while running barefoot? You don’t know how to love yourself, and you’re intentionally trying to make me feel concerned about you. Do you think that’s right?”
After hearing those words, Yun Bixue realized that he was still worried about her. She sniffed and said, “I know it’s my fault, but I just can’t control myself.”
